Relationships Among Maternal Parenting Efficacy, Play Belief, and Mother-Child Interaction Behavior in Both Single Mother Families and Two-parent Families

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify the relationships and compare differences between mother-child interaction behavior, parenting efficacy, and mother¡¯s play beliefs in single mother and two-parent families. Participants included 30 mother-child-pairs with the child being in the age range of 2 to 5-years and 11 months old; 15 mother-child-pairs were from single mother families and the other 15 pairs were from two parent families. PSOC for parenting efficacy and PPBS for Play belief were executed and both K-MBRS and K-CBRS were used to measure mother-child interaction. Observations included 15 minutes of VCO recordings of mother-child interactions. Relationships between mother-child interaction, parenting efficacy, and play beliefs were identified, but the differences between the two groups of mothers were shown only in parenting efficacy factor and play belief factor, including mothers¡¯ interaction behaviors through the elapsed time
